Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - Sept. 17, 2011 - Two days. Two games. Two overtime wins for the Robert Morris University field hockey team. The Colonials remained unbeaten in three overtime contests this season with Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over Lindenwood, putting Robert Morris in position to tie a program record for wins in a season on Sunday.
Senior forward Chantele Crow (Dauphin, Pa. / Central Dauphin) notched a pair of goals in the win including the game winner just 22 seconds into the first overtime session. Junior forward Erica Musson (Columbus, Ohio / Liberty) tallied Robert Morris' opening goal, giving the Colonials a lead they would hold until the final moments of regulation.
Less than 24 hours after topping No. 15 Ohio 1-0 for the programs' first win over a ranked opponent, the Colonials (4-4 overall, 0-0 NEC) didn't show any fatigue on Saturday when they outshot the Lions 17-11 including an 11-1 advantage in the first half. Musson put the Colonials on the board with her second goal of the season at the 24:59 mark. Musson was set up by freshman forward Julianne Alspaugh (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley).
RMU would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime, and Crow would make it a two-goal lead in the opening moments of the second half with her first score of the day. Sophomore defender Eloise Irwin (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin) earned the helper; marking her first point of the season.
Lindenwood (0-4, 0-0) wouldn't be shutout, however, as the Lions found the back of the net twice in the second half with nearly identical goals to force overtime. Both goals came off of penalty corners sent into play by Michelle Sturtevant with Lynsey Porter finding Anna Maria Llosa for the scoring stroke. Llosa's final goal came as time expired in the second half.
But Robert Morris would respond in quick fashion as Crow tallied the game winner just 22 seconds into the overtime period. Freshman midfielder Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell) found her teammate with a long down-field pass, and Crow notched the golden strike when she dribbled around Lindenwood goalkeeper Samantha Brown and found the back of the net.
Freshman keeper Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) picked up her fourth win of the season (4-4), making four saves in the winning effort.
The Colonials close out their five-game home stand against Liberty on Sunday at Noon.
