RMU Completes Sweep with 1-0 Win Over Liberty

Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - Sept. 18, 2011 - The Robert Morris field hockey team tied a program record with its fifth win of the year on Sunday; topping Liberty 1-0 and completing a three-game sweep over the weekend for the longest winning streak in Robert Morris history.

After picking up wins over No. 15 Ohio and Lindenwood earlier in the weekend, the Colonials (5-4 overall, 0-0 NEC) didn't take long to claim the lead on Sunday morning as senior forward Chantele Crow (Dauphin, Pa. / Central Dauphin) notched the eventual game winner - her third  goal of the weekend and team-leading fourth on the year. Freshman midfielder Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell) set up the score off a penalty corner, sending her corner attempt to the top of the circle for freshman defender Michelle Lewthwaite (Macarthur, Australia / Westfield Sports), who in turn dished the ball off to an open Crow just inside the circle. Crow's low drive beat Liberty goalkeeper Ann Jefferis and put RMU up for good at 16:25.

Freshman goalkeeper Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) picked up her third win and second shutout of the weekend, stopping a pair of Liberty shots to improve her record to 5-4 in her first campaign with the Colonials.  RMU outshot the Flames 11-6 in the win, landing seven on goal.

Robert Morris returns to action next weekend with a pair of road games in North Carolina, where the Colonials will try for a program-record sixth win of the season. RMU opens the road trip against Davidson on Saturday before taking on Appalachian State on Sunday. Both games are set for 12 p.m. starts.
