Pittsburgh, Pa. - For the third time this season, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team had its way with an exhibition opponent. Saturday evening, the Colonials easily skated their way to victory by a score of 6-0 against the Cambridge Rivulettes. The Rivulettes are a member of the Intermediate AA Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL), which is based in Ontario.
After not playing a game in 13 days, the Colonials started the game out aggressively scoring their first two goals just 10 minutes into play. Robert Morris registered its third goal of the game in the last two minutes of the first period and would tally two additional goals in the second and one last score in the third.
Junior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) and sophomore linemate Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) both registered three point performances for Colonials. The trio of Imbrogno, Vint and junior forward Kristin Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University) combined to be the most successful line of the evening tallying eight of the team's 15 points. On two separate occasions, the line would unite to register a goal along with the first and secondary assists.
Robert Morris got on the board in the opening half of the first period thanks to a sequence of nice passes from the hosts to Imbrogno. Just six minutes later, Imbrogno and Vint would connect again with the aid of senior defenseman Jamie Joslin (Richmond Hill, Ontario / Aurora Panthers) for the second goal of the game. With 1:14 remaining in the first period, it would be another first line combination of Vint, Richards and Imbrogno to notch the Colonials third score.
The Colonials continued to dominate play as they scored two more goals in the second period. The first score would come 7:01 into the period as from junior defenseman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) found sophomore forward Katelyn Scott (Brighton, Mich. / Belle Tire) at center ice to set up a three-on-zero breakaway. Scott skated the puck into Cambridge territory and smoothly found the net to tally her first score of exhibition play.
Three minutes later, St. Louis and Scott would combine for another score. St. Louis found an open Scott who placed a nice shot on goal that was deflected to the stick of Katie Fergus (Oakville, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) who would score off the rebound putting the Colonials to a 5-0 advantage.
Robert Morris dominated the final frame, outshooting the Rivulettes by an amazing 23-2 margin. The Colonials would notch their last goal of the game when freshman forward Ashley Vesci (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Lawrence Academy) single handedly skated the puck the length of the rink and maneuvered her way around Cambrudge netminder Julia Vandyk for the solo score. The sixth goal of the game marks Vesci's first goal in RMU exhibition play.
Senior goalie Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) got the start between the pipes and earned her second shut out of exhibition play.
RMU will plays its final exhibition contest of the season tomorrow, October 14 when it hosts the Oakville Hornets, who are also members of the PWHL. The opening puck drop is set for 2:05 p.m.
