No. 3 Terriers Prevail Over Colonials

Boston, Mass. - In the second game of its trip to New England, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team faced off against another nationally ranked opponent, Boston University.  The No. 3 ranked Terriers earned the victory over the Colonials by a 3-0 decision.

Boston University scored first in the contest just 2:28 into the first period.  Terrier sophomore forward Kayla Tutino scored her sixth goal of the season after receiving a pass from senior Jenelle Kohanchuk.

Boston would find the net again in the first period to notch its second score of the game.  With 3:23 left on the clock, Boston's leading goal scorer Sarah Lefort scored her seventh goal of the season after a pass from junior Marie-Philip Poulin.

After its tough start, Robert Morris was able to compete more closely with nationally ranked Boston over the next 25 minutes of play as it did not allow another goal until the fifteenth minute of the third period. Lefort tallied her second goal of the game while Poulin dished out her second assist to put the Terriers ahead 3-0.

Despite the loss, the Robert Morris team did put forth some impressive performances against the third ranked team in the country.  RMU fired 24 shots against the Terriers. Junior forward Kristen Richard (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University), sophomore Katie Fergus (Oakville, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) and freshman forward Ashley Vesci (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Lawrence academy) led the Colonial effort combining for 12 shots.

RMU won 27 of 48 faceoffs in the contest while sophomore forward Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle Tire) did not loose a single faceoff against her opponents and Richards won 73% of her faceoffs.

The Colonial defense also put up some impressive statistics against the Terriers.  RMU held Boston to one less goal then its average of four goals per game this season.  As a team, the Colonials blocked 17 Terrier shots.  Senior assistant captain Jamie Joslin (Richmond Hill, Ontario / Aurora Panthers) blocked four shots while sophomore defenseman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) and sophomore forward Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) each blocked three.

Senior goaltender Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) received her fourth start of the season against Boston.  For the second consecutive game, DiCiocco stopped more than 30 shots.  DiCiocco stopped a game-high 32 shots on the afternoon.

Robert Morris heads back to New England next weekend to take on the Catamounts of Vermont.  The Colonials will play Sat. Nov. 3 and Sun. Nov. 4 at 2:00 p.m.
