Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's rowing team opened its 2012-13 season Saturday by taking part in the 26th annual Allegheny Sports Medicine Head of the Ohio, sponsored by the Three Rivers Rowing Association.
The Novice 4+ boat highlighted the meet for the Colonials, placing second out of seven boats and claiming a silver medal.
The boat consisted of freshmen Caitlin Ryan (Pittsford, N.Y. / Pittsford Sutherland), Kelley Bittner (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton), Bridget Robinson (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) and Rachel Hasselman (Warren, Pa. / Warren) and posted a time of 18:04.08, trailing only Marietta, which pulled in with a time of 17:21.39.
RMU had a pair of boats participate in the Open 8+, finishing 16th and 17th out of 22 boats.
The boat to place 16th earned a time of 16:52.48 and consisted of senior Ashley Wright (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine-Richland), juniors Megan Coleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Northgate) and Kimberly Gojmerac (Johnstown, Pa. / Greater Johnstown) and sophomores Kristen Fay (Philadelphia, Pa. / Philadelphia), Madeline Frank (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Park), Brianna Hellier (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area), Heather Hodges (Valencia, Pa. / Mars Area), Laura Mooradian (St. Catharines, Ontario / Denis Morris) and Kelsey Porter (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant).
Posting a time of 16:52.82 to finish 17th was a boat that featured seniors Gretchen Gailey (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area), Caitlin Mullin (Irwin, Pa. / Penn-Trafford) and Jamie Witsch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Catholic), junior Rebecca Cole (Glenville, Pa. / Christian School of York) and sophomores Cassandra Grafton (Hartstown, Pa. / Jamestown Area), Caitlin Martin (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Upper St. Clair), Julie Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Catholic), Althea O'Brien (Sewickley, Pa. / Eden Christian Academy) and Erica Sablofski (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Plum).
Robert Morris returns to the water to close out its 2012 fall season by hosting the Robert Morris Invitational Saturday, Oct. 27, at Groveton, Pa.
