Township, Pa. - Reigning CHA Goaltending Trophy recipient and
CHA tournament MVP Kristen DiCiocco
(Niagra Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) earned her first College
Hockey America (CHA) weekly honor of the 2012-13 season as announced in a
league release Monday.
DiCiocco earned
Goaltender of the Week accolades as she led the Colonials to a sweep of
non-conference opponent Vermont over the weekend. The award is the seventh of the senior's
career, six of which came last season.
DiCiocco combined to stop a total of 52 shots in the
series against the Catamounts. 30 of the
52 saves came on Saturday as the Colonials skated to a 6-2 victory. The 30 save performance marked the third
straight contest in which DiCiocco stopped a minimum of 30 shots.
On Sunday, DiCiocco stopped 22 of the 24 shots she faced during
61 minutes of play to aid the Colonials in their first overtime win of the
season.
Throughout the series, DiCiocco only allowed one power
play goal on Vermont's 11 power play chances where she faced 20 shots. The senior netminder registered a save percentage
of .929 in the series with the Catamounts.
The award for DiCiocco marks the second consecutive week
where a Colonial has earned CHA weekly honors as senior forward Kelsey Thomas (Hamilton, Ontario / Hamilton
Hawks) earned CHA Player of the Week last week.
RMU returns to action next weekend as it travels to State
College, Pa. to take on Penn State University.
The weekend series with the Nittany Lions begins College Hockey America
(CHA) play for the Colonials. Game time
is set for 2 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 11 and Sun. Nov. 12.
