RMU Earns Comeback Win at Syracuse

Box Score

Syracuse, N.Y. - In its third College Hockey America (CHA) contest of the season, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team improved its league record to 3-0 with a come-from-behind victory over Syracuse, 2-1.

The Colonials were led by senior goaltender Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) as she tallied a game-high 31 saves while registering a .969 save percentage to earn the win between the pipes for RMU. Tonight's contests marks fourth of DiCiocco's senior campaign in which she has tallied at least 30 saves.

It would be Syracuse who would get on the board first as the Orange scored at 11:41 of the first period.  Sophomore forward Shiann Darkangelo scored her seventh goal of the season to put Syracuse up, 1-0. Freshman forward Melissa Piacentini registered the assist on Darkangelo's goal.

Just 5:54 into the second period, junior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) tied the game while scoring her fourth goal of the season.  Sophomore forward Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) notched the only assist on the first Colonial goal.  The fourth goal of the season for Imbrogno allows her to total 73 career points and 32 career goals, both of which rank third all-time in RMU program history.

With 2:26 left in the second period, Vint would put RMU ahead 2-1 with a goal of her own.  After a pass from classmate Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle Tire), Vint found the net to register her ninth goal of the season.  The multi-point game is the fourth of the season for Vint while Collias has dished out an assist in the Colonials' past three contests.  The game-winning goal marks the fourth of the year for Vint.

The third period ended scoreless, allowing the Colonials to improve their overall record to 7-2-2.  RMU outshot Syracuse 12-7 in the third period and successfully killed off the two Orange power play chances.  After tonight's contest, the Colonial penalty kill unit continues to be ranked fourth in the nation with a .930 kill percentage.  RMU's seven-game unbeaten streak also ranks fourth best in Division I.  The come-from-behind victory is the second of the season for the Colonials.

The victory for DiCiocco marks the 28th of her career.  The senior is now only four wins away from passing current assistant coach Brianne McLaughlin to become Robert Morris' most-winning goaltender.  DiCiocco now owns an overall record of 6-2-2 and a 2-0-0 CHA record.

The Colonials return to action for game-two against the Orange tomorrow afternoon.  Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
