Moon Township, Pa. - Senior goaltender Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario /
Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) and sophomore forward Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) of the Robert Morris University women's hockey
team earn College Hockey America (CHA) weekly honors after the Colonials swept
No. 4 Mercyhurst at the RMU Island Sports Center over the previous weekend.
DiCiocco
earned Goaltender of the week while Vint was selected as the Player of the
Week. It marks the second time this season that DiCiocco and Vint have earned
CHA weekly honors. The awards mark the fifth and sixth weekly honors earned by a
Robert Morris student-athlete this season.
DiCiocco
earns Goaltender of the Week accolades after she claimed her seventh and eighth
victories of the season in the Colonials upset sweep of nationally-ranked
Merychurst. She combined to stop 59 shots in the two-game series while allowing
only one goal in each contest to tally a .967 save percentage. Allowing just
one Laker goal in each contest marks the first and second times in RMU program
history that a Colonial netminder has given up only one goal to the CHA
powerhouse Mercyhurst. In Saturday's rematch contest, DiCiocco notched 20 saves
in the first period to record a season-high for saves in a single period. She
finished Saturday's game with 40 saves, another season-high for the senior
while recording the fifth contest of the year in which she has stopped at least
30 shots in a one game.
DiCiocco now
ranks in the top-three in conference goaltending statistical categories of save
percentage, winning percentage and saves. DiCiocco ranks third with a .941 in
save percentage while ranking second in winning percentage and saves. She owns
a .800 save percentage in conference play with 127 saves.
On the
national scene, DiCiocco ranks tenth in overall save percentage and winning percentage.
She owns an overall save percentage of .926 with an overall record of 8-3-2 tallying
a .692 winning percentage.
The two
victories over Mercyhurst allow DiCiocco to reach a career 30-win plateau. She
is now only two games short of topping assistant coach Brianne McLaughlin's
program record for career wins.
After earning
the CHA'a Player of the Month award for November, Vint takes home the second Player
of the Week honor of December due to her team-leading performance against Mercyhurst. The sophomore scored one goal and passed out
three assists in the two-game series with the Lakers. On Friday, Vint's second
assist of the game came on the game-winning goal. Under three minutes after the
assist, Vint scored an unassisted goal to lead RMU to the 3-1 victory. Her
multi-point effort on Friday marked Vint's sixth multi-point performance of the
year, fourth of which that has occurred in league play.
On Saturday,
in identical fashion, Vint dished out another assist on the Colonial's
game-winning goal. Vint's performance aided
RMU in its first-ever swept of an opponent ranked in the national top-ten.
Vint
currently ranks in the conference top-five in five statistical categories;
scoring, goals, assists, power play points and game-winning goal. The sophomore has registered 14 points in league
play good enough for a second place ranking.
She is tied for the league lead in goals with eight while she has dished
out five assists and tallied six power play points. Most impressively, Vint leads the CHA in game-winning
goals with three in conference contests. Vint's total of four game-winning
goals throughout the regular season ties her for second nationally.
