Lewiston, N.Y. / Niagara Falls C.C. -- The Robert Morris University women's golf team finished second in the 36-hole Purple Eagles Invititational hosted by Niagara University at Niagara Falls Country Club. Robert Morris put four golfers into the event's top-10 standings as they finished with a team total of 681.
Youngstown State, who had two golfers - Aislynn Merling and Sarah Heimlich - tie for individual low score, won the event with a 663 team total. Robert Morris was 13 strokes behind that followed by host Niagara University (702) in third, Saint Francis (Pa.) (719) in fourth and Mercyhurst (775) well back in fifth place.
Sophomore Alee Everman (Dayton, Ohio / Centerville) paced RMU with a consistent rounds. She followed her opening foray of 83 by turning in an 82 Tuesday, leaving her with a 165 total that was two strokes off the three-way tie for first. The fourth-place showing was the best of her career.
Junior Jenna Rinker (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock (Clarion)) recovered from an uncharacteristic 89 Monday to fire the team low score of the event - 81 - Tuesday. Her 170 total put her in a tie for seventh place. Senior Elizabeth Wenger (Toledo, Ohio / Whitmer) managed an 86 in the second round that put her at 173 through 36 holes of competition. She finished ninth.
Junior Tess Wolfe (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk) slipped a bit in the final round, carding an 89 but managed to hold on to a top-10 finish with a 174. Her 10th place showing was her best of 2011-12. Sophomore Annie Bozich (Aliquippa, Pa. / Center) rounded out the team scorers in 14th, carding an 88 after opening with a 92.
Also playing as individuals at the event for RMU were freshmen Sarah Weber (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) and Tori Zachman (Hampstead, Md. / North Carroll). Weber was 12th, shooting 90-86=176. Zachman found 10 strokes in the second round, cutting her 104 to a 94 to finish in 23rd.
