RMU Kicks Off Season Sunday at Eastern Kentucky

Eastern Kentucky Colonels
Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012
Richmond, Ky. - EKU Soccer Field

Capsule

The Robert Morris University women's soccer team kicks off the fall season at Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, August 19, in a 1:00 p.m. game. The game is the first action of the 2012-13 season for any Colonials team and marks the earliest - by one day over last year's women's soccer season opener - that an RMU team has begun a fall season.

Preseason Polls

Robert Morris was picked eighth in the 2012 NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Eastern Kentucky was picked fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in a poll conducted by the league's coaches.

The Series

The Colonials and the Colonels (this could get confusing) have never met.

Musket Shots

  • The Colonials record of 11-8-1 last season was the best in team history
  • RMU returns 14 letterwinners and seven starters from the 2011 team
  • Senior Ayana Davis is second all-time at RMU with 27 career goals (Katie Dugan, 36, 1999-02)
  • Davis' 58 career points are also second in school annals (Kaite Dugan, 85, 1999-02)
  • Sophomore Haley Vincent was an NEC All-Rookie Team selection last season
  • The 2011 team set program records for wins (11), points (102) and assists (32)

Scouting the Colonels

Eastern Kentucky, who posted a record of 7-10-3 in 2011, were selected fourth in the OVC's preseason poll. Senior Deja Tennon and junior Lauren Fant were both All-OVC selections last season while sophomore Paige Larkin earned second team honors as a rookie. EKU had a miniscule 0.90 goals against average in 2011. The Colonels open the season against UNC Asheville Friday, Aug. 17.
