RMU Drops Season Opener 2-0

Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris field hockey team was edged 2-0 by Villanova on Friday as the Colonials hosted the first ever night contest at Joe Walton Stadium to start the 2012 season.

Robert Morris (0-1 overall, 0-0 NEC) was outshot in the contest (12-7 shots on goal), however the final score could have been drastically different had it not been for two defensive saves by freshman defender Marzana Fiedtkou (Georgetown, Guyana) .  As a team, the Colonials registered four defensive saves on top of the six saves recorded by senior goaltender Paige Neat (Louisville, Kentucky / Christian Academy).

Villanova (1-0 overall, 0-0 Big East) would score first as Leah High found herself all alone in front of the goal with about five minutes remaining in the first half.  The Wildcats would double their lead as Olivia Maggitti scored off of a feed from High with under ten minutes remaining in the game.

Fiedtkou also carried the Colonials offensively, supplying the team with three of their seven shots on goal.

The Colonials will return to action this upcoming Sunday as they finish up play in the Colonial Classic by hosting the loser of tomorrow's match between Central Michigan and Radford; face-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
