Colonials Fall Prey to Purple Eagles, 2-0

Niagara University, N.Y. / Niagara Field - The Robert Morris University women's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its 2012 schedule with a 2-0 loss at Niagara University Sunday afternoon. With the setback, RMU stands 0-9-1 as they move into Northeast Conference play. The Purple Eagles improve to 4-3 on the year with their third consecutive victory.

Niagara jumped on top in the 12th minute of action as Danielle Kennedy found herself on the end of a corner kick by Kori Thorne and buried the ball in the left corner. Mari Siegrist-Gabas pushed the margin to 2-0 with her score in the 43rd minute as she knocked a shot off the post and in.

Sophomore Becky Schoenecker (Cheswick, Pa. / Fox Chapel) got the start in goal for the second straight game, allowing two goals and making two saves in 45 minutes of action. Freshman Chelsea de Jager (Grimsby, Ontario / Governor Simcoe) had four saves in the second half. Senior Ayana Davis (Mt. Laurel, N.J. / Holy Cross) had four attempts on goal for RMU.

Robert Morris opens NEC play by hosting LIU Brooklyn in a 3:00 p.m. match Friday, Sept. 21.
