USAFA, Colo. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team took to the ice against the Air Force Falcons on Friday night and were on the short end of a 2-0 score in a tightly contested battle between two former CHA rivals.  An early goal in the first period would be too much for the Colonials to overcome as the team fell to 12-8-2 overall and 7-7-1 in conference play this season.

In a fast-paced first period of action, Air Force would pick up the only goal of the period just 65 seconds after the opening faceoff.  The Falcons pounced on a mishandled rebound in front of the RMU net for the early 1-0 lead.

Despite maintaining puck control for the majority of the second period, Robert Morris was unable to capitalize on the eleven shots the team had during the period as the Colonials still trailed by a goal heading in to the third period.

The best chances for the Colonials came halfway through the third period as the top line for Robert Morris pressured the Falcons with a forecheck to force a turnover.  Off of the turnover, RMU would have three chances around the crease of Air Force but they were unable to find the game-tying goal.

Shortly after the chances for Robert Morris, the Colonials would commit a slashing infraction that would put Air Force on the power play for the second time in the game.  The Falcons would skate in on an odd-man rush and take a 2-0 lead with 9:14 remaining in the third period.

Robert Morris would get one final chance late in the third period as the Colonials would be on the power play and pull their goaltender for an extra skater.  The effort was for naught as RMU would fall, 2-0, and end the night 0-for-4 on the power play.

In the game, the Colonials would out-shoot Air Force, 30-25, as Robert Morris held the advantage in the second and third periods but were unable to beat the Air Force goaltending.  Freshman Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) would lead the Colonials with seven shots on goal in the losing effort.

Goaltender Eric Levine (Wheeling, Ill. / Pembroke Lumber Kings) would make 23 saves as the senior saw his record fall to 11-6-2 on the season. 

The Colonials conclude their four-game road trip with game two against the Air Force Academy on Saturday evening.  The game is scheduled for a 9:05 ET faceoff on the grounds of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
