Township, Pa. - The Robert
Morris University women's hockey team will host its seventh annual 'Skate
for the Cure' event this upcoming weekend, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1 and 2
when the Colonials host Syracuse at 3:05 p.m.
Founded during the 2006-07 season by College Hockey
America (CHA), Skate for the Cure is a league-wide initiative that involves its
member institutions--Mercyhurst, Robert Morris, Syracuse, Penn State,
Lindenwood and RIT--dedicating one or two games out of their schedule towards
raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research.
Last season as a league, the CHA raised over $12,000. In
the past six seasons, league teams have combined to raise of $65,000.
RMU will be selling t-shirts at both games for $10 to
raise funds. The Colonials will also be raffling off two autographed sticks and
one jersey signed by the 2012-13 Robert Morris team. On Saturday, a goalie
glove and photograph autographed by assistant coach Brianne McLaughlin and 2010 Olympic Silver Medalist will also be
raffled off. Fans will also be encouraged to donate to the cause upon entering
each game.
Proceeds from all CHA member schools will be distributed
in conjunction with the 2013 CHA Tournament.
