Preview
The Robert Morris University field hockey team looks to rebound this week with two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contests in the Nutmeg State. The Colonials will first take on Quinnipiac on Friday at 3:00 p.m., and then head about a half hour southwest for a Sunday tilt with Sacred Heart at noon.
History vs. Quinnipiac
The Colonials are 1-8 all-time against the Bobcats. RMU earned their last win against Quinnipiac on Oct. 26, 2008 by the score of 2-1. The two teams played last season on Oct. 19, 2012, with the Bobcats coming out on top, 4-1.
History vs. Sacred Heart
Just like the Quinnipiac series, the Colonials are also 1-8 all-time against the Pioneers. RMU earned their first victory over Sacred Heart last season on Oct. 21, 2012 by the score of 2-1.
Jess Martin Brown (Mount Gambier, Australia / University of Adelaide) and
Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) were the Colonial goalscorers on that afternoon.
In Case You Missed It
RMU opened up conference play last Sunday, but fell to Rider, 2-0. The Broncs were picked to win the MAAC according to a preseason poll of coaches.
Quick Hitters
-
Freshman Chloe McIlwaine (Belfast, Ireland / Northumbria University) and Martin-Brown are tied for the team lead with eight goals each. One more goal would tie a single-season mark for most goals in a season (9), set by Martin-Brown last year.
-
In a 1-0 win against Ball State on Sept. 6, Jamie Hartley broke the school's career record for most goals scored. Hartley now has 18 for her career, while Martin-Brown is at 17.
-
With their next win, the Colonials will tie a single-season school record for most victories in a season. The current mark of eight was set in the 2011 season.
-
RMU is currently fifth nationally in shutouts per game (0.42). Junior goalkeeper Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) and a strong defense have produced five blank sheets on the season.
Coming Up
The Colonials return home next weekend for their first games at Joe Walton Stadium as a member of the MAAC. The lights will come on for RMU's meeting with Bryant on Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m., and then the Colonials take on Siena on Oct. 27 at noon.
