Thank You Seniors
Senior defender
Eloise Irwin (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin) and graduating juniors
Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) and
Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) will be honored in a pre-game ceremony as a part of Senior Day festivities.
Irwin has played in 60 games over her last four years, and has started 55 of them. She was selected to the USA Women's Field Hockey Midwest Junior High Performance Squad following her freshman campaign, and scored her first goal – a game-winner – the next season against Appalachian State.
McKenzie has started 46 games in her three seasons as a Colonial. She was named to the All-NEC Second Team as a freshman a tied a then-school record for shutouts with two. McKenzie has since surpassed that mark, as she's blanked six opponents this season. Between Aug. 31 and Nov. 14, the graduating goalkeeper shut out four teams in a row.
Hartley has earned All-NEC Second Team honors the past two seasons, and was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team before this year. On Nov. 6 against Ball State, Hartley's lone goal not only won the game for RMU, but it also set a new program mark for goals in a career with 17. She's since extended that record to 19, and holds the program's top spot in points with 59.
In Case You Missed It
RMU kept their playoff hopes alive by splitting a home series with Bryant and Siena last weekend. The Colonials dropped a heartbreaker in overtime on Friday night to the Bulldogs, 1-0, but rebounded with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Saints on Sunday afternoon. The victory gave the Colonials their ninth of the year, which sets a program record for wins in a season.
RMU held advantages in shots (11 to 9), shots on goal (7 to 6), and penalty corners (11 to 5) against Bryant, but couldn't push the ball past Bulldog goalkeeper Megan Hancock. Goalkeeper
Erin McKenzie made five saves on the evening.
The Colonials picked up goals from freshman midfielder/defender
Chloe McIlwaine (Belfast, Ireland / Northumbria University), junior midfielder
Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell), and midfielder
Jamie Hartley. RMU's defense held Siena to two shots in total, neither of which found their way to the net.
