Moon Township, Pa. / Charles L. Sewall Center — Senior forward Artemis Spanou (Rhodes, Greece / Nea Smyrni) dominated the game with 31 points and 17 rebounds as the Robert Morris University women's basketball team routed Marshall University, 67-48, at the Charles L. Sewall Center Tuesday morning. Spanou now has 1,110 career rebounds, 10 shy of the Robert Morris record of 1,120 set by Elise James (1996-2000).

Spanou went 11-of-15 from the floor, drilling two three-pointers and going 7-of-9 from the charity stripe to come within one point of her career high of 32 points. She pulled down 14 of her 17 rebounds on the defensive end of the floor and dished four assists as well.

"I was really happy for our team today. It was a great a win over a team from a very powerful conference," said 11th year RMU head coach Sal Buscaglia. "I felt that we learned some things from our first game. With playing so many freshmen, and starting three today, I think game-by-game we'll learn more and more about individual players and what's best for our team. Artemis obviously had a tremendous game, but I felt it was a total team effort as everyone was looking to get her the ball as well as play great defense at the other end of the floor."

Sophomore Ashley Ravelli (Milano, Italy / The Hun School) added 10 points and had a career-best seven rebounds.  Freshman Cassie Oursler (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) tacked on seven boards to go with four points.

Robert Morris dominated the glass, outrebounding the Thundering Herd by 13, and took advantage of 13 takeaways scoring 21 points off of turnovers.

The Herd took advantage of two early RMU turnovers, jumping to a 4-0 lead. It would be the largest lead of the game for Marshall. A jumper by Ravelli and a three by Spanou put RMU on top just one minute later.

The score remained tight as both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm before a three-pointer by freshman guard Anna Niki Stamalamprou (Thessaloniki, Greece / Aristotelio College of Thessaloniki) gave RMU a four-point lead with 13:05 left in the half. The basket spurred a 14-5 run over the next five minutes fueled by another trey by Stamalamprou and was capped by Spanou's second three-ball of the contest.

RMU pushed the margin to 11 points, but the last four baskets of the first half belonged to Marshall making it 32-25 in favor of the Colonials at halftime. Spanou already had a double-double at that point with 14 points and 10 rebounds while RMU held a 26-15 advantage on the glass.

A three-ball by Ravelli and a fast-break layup by freshman Janee Brown (Mitchelville, Md. / Holy Cross) pushed the margin to 15 points four minutes into the second half. The Colonials lead would shrink to no less than 13 points the rest of the way. A trey by freshman Rebeca Navarro (Galicia, Spain / Las Siege Palmas) made it a 67-43 game and was the largest lead with 1:07 left in regulation.

AJ Johnson was the lone Marshall player in double-digits finishing with 12 points. Suporia Dickens and Leah Scott had nine points each.

Robert Morris continues a six-game homestand on Sunday, Nov. 17, when it hosts Coppin State in a 5:00 pm. game.
