LITHUANIA – Robert Morris women's basketball standout
Myriam Traore helped lead the French U20 National Team to the 2026 FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket Championship, as France completed a perfect 7-0 tournament run with a 79-66 victory over Israel in Sunday's gold medal game. The title marks the sixth U20 Women's EuroBasket championship in program history for France.
GROUP STAGE
France opened tournament play with a dominant 69-44 victory over Türkiye at Alytus Arena. Traore scored six points on 2-for-4 shooting while converting both free throw attempts. She also contributed four rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in 12 minutes.
France followed with a commanding 74-31 win over Slovenia. Traore finished with four points, two rebounds, and one assist in 14 minutes while once again shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
The French closed group play with a 70-62 victory over Belgium to finish atop the group and advance to the Round of 16. Traore grabbed one rebound in five minutes of action as France out-rebounded Belgium, 51-43.
KNOCKOUT ROUND
France earned an 81-65 win over Serbia in the Round of 16 behind another balanced team performance. Traore connected on her first three-pointer of the tournament and finished with three points, one rebound, two assists, and one steal.
In the quarterfinals, France used a 29-point first quarter to defeat host Lithuania, 70-61, advancing to the semifinals against Spain. Traore played four minutes off the bench.
France then punched its ticket to the championship game with a 64-54 semifinal victory over Spain. Traore scored two points and added a block in nearly seven minutes of action as France shot 45.5 percent from the field and held a 39-30 advantage on the glass.
CHAMPIONSHIP
France faced Israel in Sunday's championship after Israel advanced to the championship for the first time with a semifinal win over Belgium.
The French came out firing, opening the game with an 18-0 run and taking a 44-31 lead into halftime behind a 28-point first quarter. Israel battled back in the second half, but France maintained control to secure the 79-66 victory and its sixth U20 Women's EuroBasket title.
Traore logged 8:30 off the bench in the championship game, knocking down a three-pointer while adding two rebounds and one assist.
Over the course of France's undefeated championship run, Traore totaled 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, one steal, and three blocked shots.
NCAA IN THE EUROBASKET
Traore was one of three active NCAA athletes who were apart of the French National Team. Teammates Aniss Tagayi (Ball State) and Tèa Clèante (Kansas State) were the other two active NCAA players to help secure the championship for France.
