CHA Monthly Award Release (November)
Pittsburgh, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's hockey team swept College Hockey America's (CHA) November monthly awards; the first time in which a Colonial claimed every monthly honor.
Junior forward
Rebecca Vint (Caldeon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder) was named CHA Player of the Month following a 10-point November. Vint registered five goals and five assists, blocked 16 shots, and compiled a plus/minus of +5 in nine games.
With 1:13 remaining in an Oct. 23 contest at Syracuse, Vint broke a 1-1 tie with a breakaway goal. Then just three days later, the junior found the back of the net with 15:47 left in the third period to push Robert Morris ahead of Ohio State, 2-1. Three of Vint's five November goals came in the game's final 20 minutes, including the two aforementioned game-winners.
Vint currently ranks second in the CHA in goals (9), tied for second in game-winning goals (3), and third in points (17) and plus/minus (+12).
This is Vint's third CHA Player of the Month award, as she received the honor twice in November and December of last season. The forward was also the recipient of CHA Rookie of the Month twice during her freshman campaign.
Freshman goaltender
Jessica Dodds (London, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes) brought home her second CHA monthly honor, as she was named CHA Goaltender of the Month. Dodds made seven starts in November and compiled a record of 6-0-1, a goals-against-average of 1.27, and a save percentage of .940. The netminder picked up her third shutout of the season in a 6-0 victory at Penn State on Nov. 1.
With an overall record of 11-0-1, Dodds leads the nation in winning percentage (.958) among qualified goaltenders, and her goals-against-average of 1.48 is good enough for seventh nationally. The freshman leads the CHA in wins, winning percentage, and goals-against-average, is tied for second in shutouts (3), and is third in save percentage (.931).
Freshman forward
Brittany Howard (St. Thomas, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) joins her classmate Dodds as a two-time monthly award recipient this season, as she was honored with CHA Rookie of the Month. Howard led the team with 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists) in the month of November.
After her nine-game point streak was snapped at the hands of Mercyhurst, Howard responded by notching at least one point in four of her last five games. The freshman notched the deciding goal in a 3-1 victory over Lindenwood on Nov. 16, scored the tying goal and assisted on the game-winner against Ohio State on Nov. 26, and collected her first career hat trick in a 4-2 victory over Maine last Friday.
The four-goal effort against the Black Bears was the program's third-best single-game performance, falling just shy of the five-goal mark that Vint (Nov. 10, 2012 at Penn State) and Megan Picnic (Oct. 27, 2006 vs. Chatham) set. It also was the first hat trick for a Colonial this season, and the first time a CHA player turned the trick in 2013-14.
Howard leads the nation in game-winning goals (4), is tied for fifth in points (25), tied for sixth in assists (15), and tied for eight in goals (10). All of those marks are tops among freshmen, while her goal, point, and game-winning goal outputs pace the CHA. The forward's assist total is good enough for second in the conference.
Robert Morris returns to the ice this weekend for their only December series as the Colonials will host RIT in a battle of the CHA's first and second-place teams. Puck drop for Friday's contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from 84 Lumber Arena.
