Box Score

WATERTOWN, Mass. – December 7, 2013 - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team concluded a two-game series with the Bentley Falcons on Saturday evening.  Despite Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) scoring a goal for the third-consecutive game, the Colonials dropped a 7-2 contest as they were swept in a two-game series for the second time this season.

Lynch provided the lone goal for Robert Morris (2-10-1, 2-5-1 AHA) as the Colonials were shorthanded in the second period.  Already down 4-0, Lynch beat Bentley (7-7-1, 6-2-1 AHA) goaltender Branden Komm as the sophomore exceeded his career highs in goals and points with his sixth goal and 15th point in just 13 games this season.

The Falcons would strike first eight minutes into the opening period as a point shot from Mike Berry found its way through traffic and past Dalton Izyk (Oswego, N.Y. / Indiana Ice) to give Bentley the 1-0 lead.

The deficit facing RMU would double to 2-0 less than four minutes later as the Colonials allowed an odd-man rush that resulted in a goal for Bentley by Steve Weinstein.

After failing to capitalize on the game's first power play, the Colonials sent Bentley to the power play ten second after the RMU man advantage expired.  It was on the power play for Bentley that the Falcons would take a 3-0 lead with a goal from Brett Gensler with just 30 seconds remaining in the opening period.

The Falcons dug a deeper hole for the Colonials with a fourth goal just 4:35 into the second period with a marker from Brett Switzer.

Bentley answered Lynch's goal less than two minutes later as Jared Rickord's goal allowed the Falcons to regain their four-goal advantage at the with nine minutes remaining in the second period.

Earning his second start of the season Izyk was pulled after allowing the fifth goal and finishing the contest with 14 saves in just under 32 minutes of action.  Fellow freshman netminder Brandon Lane (Oakville, Ontario / Kanata Stallions) replaced Izyk for the remainder of the contest.

The Falcons rudely welcomed Lane into the contest as they recorded their sixth goal of the game less than two minutes after he entered the contest.  Andrew Gladiuk provided Bentley with its sixth goal of the game with less than seven minutes remaining in the second period.

Bentley would add a seventh goal in the third period.  While on the power play, Gladiuk collected his second goal of the game at the 7:19 mark of the final frame.

Despite allowing a pair of power-play goals on seven attempts, the Colonials were able to kill off 91 seconds of a two-man advantage for Bentley in the third period.  Robert Morris was one of eight with the man advantage including a five-on-three that the Colonials capitalized on with less than two minutes remaining in the third period.

The power-play goal was netted by Evan Moore (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Sioux Falls Stampede), his second goal of the season after not registering a goal in his freshman campaign.  With Moore's tally, the contest ended with the score 7-2.

Lane finished the game with 11 saves in just over 28 minutes of action.

With the loss, RMU drops to 0-6-0 on the road this season while averaging less than two goals per game.  In those six road games, the Colonials have allowed an average of 4.3 goals to their opponents.

Robert Morris will remain on the road next weekend for a single game as the Colonials travel north to take on in-state rival Mercyhurst on Saturday evening.
