Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. / Charles L. Sewall Center - Robert Morris University senior forward Anna Gailite (Riga, Latvia / Riga Secondary #47) recorded two blocks in a 60-48 loss to Monmouth to set the single-season record for RMU with 55. Gailite now has 164 blocks for her career, one shy of the career record of 165 set by Kim Mong (1981-85). Mong also had the previous single-season mark of 54 in the 1981-82 season.

With the loss Monday, RMU slips to 7-20 overall and 6-10 in the Northeast Conference while Monmouth moves to 13-14 and 10-6 in games against league opponents.

Junior forward Artemis Spanou (Rhodes, Greece / Nea Smyrni) led all players with 25 points and 18 rebounds marking her 22nd consecutive double-double and her nation-leading 24th double-double of the year. She was 10-of-15 from the field and went 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

Junior guard Ashley Ravelli (Milan, Italy / The Hun School) was the only other Colonial to reach double-digits in scoring with 12 points including a pair of three-pointers. Freshman point guard Randi Jackson (Oakland, Calif. / Bishop O'Dowd) dished a season-best seven assists.

Robert Morris seized an early lead by controlling the glass, surging to an 8-2 lead as Ravelli hit a set of jumpers and junior guard Kelly Hartwell (Woodbridge, Va. / Gar-Field) converted two chances at the charity stripe. Spanou extended the lead to the largest it would reach for the home team, 19-10, when she finished of an old-fashioned three-point play with 8:56 to go in the first half.

Monmouth got a three-pointer by Gabby Singer who would score 21 points and hit seven long balls on the night. Alysha Womack then scored five consecutive points and another Singer three was followed by a layup by Chevannah Paalvast that finished off a 13-0 run for the Hawks.

A long jumper by Gailite cut the margin to one, but Singer hit two more from downtown to put Monmouth ahead, 30-23, at halftime. Singer had six first half three pointers.

After five points from Spanou to open the second half, RMU went eight minutes without a basket and Monmouth pushed its lead from five points to 13, 41-28, before Spanou ended the scoring drought with her only three of the game. RMU cut the margin to seven points, but Monmouth answered again, this time with a 12-0 run that made it a 19-point game with 4:02 to play.

Carly Thibault scored 13 points for the Hawks, hitting three three-pointers and going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe and Alysha Womack tacked on 12 points. RMU outrebounded the Hawks, 43-31, but committed 23 turnovers that were converted into 29 points on the other end. Monmouth went 12-of-21 (57.1 percent) on three-pointers and 40.8 percent from the field. RMU shot 32.1 percent (17-53) overall.

The Colonials travel to Central Connecticut State for a 1:00 p.m. game Saturday, March 2.
