Bryan Selected in Second Round of CWHL Draft

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Former Robert Morris University women's hockey goaltender Delayne Brian (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Wayne State University) was selected on Monday by Team Alberta in the second round of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) Draft.

"We're excited that Delayne has the opportunity to continue her hockey career," said Colonials head coach Paul Colontino. "To be drafted that high with the first pick in the second round is a great accomplishment, especially when many don't have the chance to continue their playing career after college."

Brian becomes the first RMU player to be drafted in the CWHL since Brianne McLaughlin. McLaughlin was selected 24th overall by the Burlington Barracudas in the 2010 CWHL Draft.

Brian, an Applied Psychology major who graduated in May, was recently named to the 2012-13 College Hockey America (CHA) All-Academic Team. She played in six games last season for the Colonials, compiling a record of 2-2 while making 93 saves.

The newest Team Alberta goaltender transferred from Wayne State University after the 2010-11 season. As a Warrior, Brian played in 71 games and set single-season program records in the 2010-11 campaign for saves (978) and minutes played (1856:08). She was named CHA Goaltender of the Week six times, CHA Goaltender of the Month honors three times, and CHA Defensive Player of the Week three times during her Wayne State career.

"Delayne will give us a great one-two punch in goal," Team Alberta head coach Tim Bothwell said in a release. "She led her teams to championships before playing four years at the Division 1 level, and also has international experience in the Canadian Under 18 program. She is a welcome addition."

Founded in 2007, the CWHL currently has five hockey teams and is regarded as the most premier, professionally run women's hockey league in the world. Team Alberta finished last season with a 3-21-0 record.

RMU kicks off the 2013-14 season on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 84 Lumber Arena when they host the Toronto Aeros in a preseason exhibition.
