Hester to Join Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

Former Xavier player fills out RMU staff.

Moon Township, Pa. — Robert Morris University women's basketball head coach Sal Buscaglia announced the addition of Maureen Hester as an assistant coach. Hester fills the void left by Kyle Hejmowski who recently joined the coaching staff at Niagara University.

Hester spent the previous three seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at her alma mater, Xavier University. A Pittsburgh native, Hester played high school basketball at Bethel Park High School where she was named a Street & Smith's Honorable Mention All-American.

"Myself and my staff are very excited about Maureen joining our staff," said Buscaglia. "We are very confident she will make the transition from director of basketball operations to on-the-floor coaching and, of course, recruiting. Although this will be her first 'coaching' experience, her background as a player at Xavier along with being on the staff there has given her a solid foundation for coaching-related responsibilities. Her ties to the Pittsburgh area certainly are a plus as well.

"Although coach Hejmowski will surely be missed, I feel very good about the staff now in place. With coach Charlie Buscaglia having over 15 years of experience, the youthful energy of assistant coaches Chenel Harris and coach Hester along with second-year graduate assistant Scott Schneider – who has done an outstanding job – I believe all is in good order."

Hester spent three seasons as the women's basketball director of operations at Xavier under head coach Amy Waugh. In that role, Hester worked closely with the Musketeers marketing department supporting the growth of the Xavier program.

Hester was a four-year letter winner as a member of the XU women's basketball team from 2006-10 and earned a bachelor's degree in sports administration with a business minor. She played in 82 career games, starting 34 times as a Musketeer.

During the 2010-11 season, Hester served as an assistant girls basketball coach at Cincinnati's Turpin High School and also worked within the XU athletic department as a marketing staff intern. She graduated from Xavier in May 2011 with a master's degree in business administration.
