Colonials Excel at Doug Raymond Invitational

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's indoor track & field team continued its 2012-13 campaign Saturday by taking part in the Doug Raymond Invitational, which was hosted by Kent State University.

Highlighting the meet for the Colonials was sophomore Marissa Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic), who finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:05.88.

In the sprints, senior Justene Delman (Bellaire, Ohio / Saint John's Central) posted a time of 1:02.26 in the 400-meter dash, while freshman Maria Scanlon (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Keystone Oaks) competed in the 200-meter dash and crossed the finish line in 26.79 seconds.

Sophomore Tara Van Schie (Haarlem, Netherlands / Drieuhuis NH) took part in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 8.23 seconds.

In the jumps, freshman Olivia Loy (Lemoyne, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) just missed out on qualifying for the IC4A/ECAC Championships, posting a leap of 3.55 meters (11'7.75") to tie for third in the event. Also posting mark of 3.55 meters in the pole vault were Rebecca Herte of Kent State, Emily Clay of Cincinnati, Domenica Rossi of Kent State and Chelsea Vaughan and Alyssa McBride, both from Cincinnati.

Junior Yulia Vasilyeva (Volgograd, Russia) took home a fifth-place finish for Robert Morris in the triple jump, posting leap of 11.09 meters (36'4.75").

In the throw events, senior Megan Green (Ballaire, Ohio / Bellaire) placed ninth in the shot put with a toss of 12.81 meters (42'0.50"), while junior Rachael Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) earned 10th in the weight throw with a tally of 14.77 meters (48'5.50").

Robert Morris returns to action with a pair of meets next week, with the Gene Edmunds Cup in West Lafayette, Ind., as well as the Al Hall Freedom Games on the campus of Edinboro University.
