Martineau Selected for Fulbright U.S. Student Program Grant

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Senior women's track and field athlete Lindsey Martineau continues to succeed on and off the track, with Martineau being granted the Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant, RMU announced on Monday afternoon.

THE FULBRIGHT U.S. STUDENT PROGRAM

Martineau is slated to graduate in May of 2026 with a degree in biology and in September, as part of the Fulbright Program, administered by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Martineau will travel to Budapest, Hungary, to spend nine months conducting research based on her proposed project on the effects of exercise on cognition in aging populations.

The Fulbright Program aims to increase mutual understanding between people in the United States and other countries through education and cultural exchange. Each year, thousands of applicants compete for a limited number of awards.

"As a student-athlete, exercise has always been a huge part of my life," stated Martineau, "But once I started working in a nursing home and volunteering in hospice, I saw how cognitive decline affects patients and their daily lives. That really sparked my interest in understanding if there are ways we can help or better understand that process."

Through the program, she will engage in an immersive cultural exchange while conducting advanced research in an international setting, which is an experience that adds both complexity and prestige to the award.

"Getting the opportunity to live in another country and fully immerse myself in a different culture is just so exciting, Martineau said. "And to be able to do that while working at an institution that's so well known for this type of research makes it even more meaningful."

ON THE TRACK
