Pittsburgh, Pa. – Sept. 24, 2013 – The
Robert Morris University women's hockey team participated in the Pittsburgh 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes this past Saturday.
The walk was held at 10:00 a.m. in Oakland, Pa. at Schenley Park, and was hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The Colonials raised a total of $3,868.54 to support the cause, which continued an annual tradition of participating in the event.
"I'm really proud of how the team rallied together for this," senior captain
Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University) said. "We have two teammates who are affected by diabetes, and it was comforting to know that we could support them."
Over 200 teams registered for the walk, which raised a total of $465,806.93. Participants walked a total of two miles.
RMU opens the 2013-14 season on Sunday with an exhibition against the Toronto Aeros. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at 84 Lumber Arena.
