Pittsburgh, Pa. Robert Morris University women's hockey senior defenseman Brandi Pollock (Virden, Manitoba / Westman Wildcats) is one of 18 student-athletes nominated for the 2014 BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award, as revealed in an announcement this past Thursday.

In its 19th year, the Hockey Humanitarian Award recognizes college hockey's finest citizen and includes student-athletes from Divisions I, II, and III, and both genders. Last season, Cobina Delaney was named one of 11 nominees for the award, and in 2011, Whitney Pappas was nominated and eventually named a finalist for the honor.

Pollock has been very involved in extra-curriculars during her time at Robert Morris. She is the creator of the Amazing Race event held on campus, where all proceeds were given to the Make-A-Wish foundation, and is a member of SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee). Pollock has also participated in the RMU Canned Food Drive and RMU Live's production of sporting events. This past fall, the senior defenseman helped raised donations for the Krush Cancer Foundation – a charitable foundation began by cancer survivor and former Colonial men's hockey player Chris Kushneriuk.

Away from campus, Pollock has given time to volunteer at the West Hills Heatlh and Rehabilitation Center and American Cancer Association. She has also participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk the last four years.

On the ice, Pollock serves as an assistant captain for the nationally-ranked Colonials squad. Through 24 games, the defenseman has registered a career-high 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists) and is one of seven players currently with a plus/minus in double-digits (+13). She also has blocked a team-high 52 shots.

Finalists for the Hockey Humanitarian Award will be revealed in Feburary, and the 2014 recipient of the honor will be named at the Frozen Four in Philadelphia, Pa. on Friday, April 11.

After nabbing three of a possible four points at No. 10 Quinnipiac, No. 8 Robert Morris returns to College Hockey America (CHA) play this weekend against Mercyhurst. The first battle between the two Keystone State rivals is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 p.m. from Mercyhurst Ice Center.
