Apalachin, N.Y. – The
Robert Morris University men's golf team finished third at the Binghamton Fall Invitational led by senior
Ryan Prokay's second place showing. The Colonials fired a team-record score of four-under par in the opening round before a 12-over Monday gave the squad a 584 total on the par-72, 7,159-yard course at The Links at Hiawatha Landing.
Host Binghamton tallied the lowest second day score (290) by nine strokes to take the team title with a 576. Delaware finished with a 279-300=579 and RMU was third at 284-300=584. Bucknell was fourth (589) followed by Hofstra (592), Fairleigh Dickinson (593), Lafayette (601), St. Bonaventure (604), Colgate (607), Rider and Monmouth (611), LIU Brooklyn (612), Canisius (617), UMass Lowell (620), Ottawa (623) and Niagara (635).
Prokay finished the tournament at two-under par to tie for second place, his second top-five showing in three events this season. After a two-under par 70 Sunday, Prokay carded a 72 (E) in Monday's round, leading the team in scoring both days.
Senior
Santiago Mejia missed out on a top-10 showing by one stroke, finishing 13th in the field of 91 players. He came home in 74 strokes after a first round 71 to accumulate a 145 (+1). Junior
Garrett Browning was 17th overall as he collected a 71-76=147 (+3).
Freshman
Grant Schumaker added the fourth score to the team total with a 78 in round two. His 150 (+6) total, good for a 26th place tie, included an even par 72 in the opening day. Junior
Dan Maier rounded out the Colonials lineup in a tie for 41st. He shot 73-80=153 (+9).
Playing as an individual, senior
Matt Gurska finished with the same score as Schumaker. A first round hole-in-one helped him to a 76. He found two strokes in round two for a 74 and a 150 (+6) total.
The Colonials finish off the fall portion of their schedule at the Dayton Flyers Invitational On Oct. 20 and 21, 2014.
