Wentzville, Mo. – Despite two goals from senior assistant captain
Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs), the Robert Morris University women's hockey team fell to Lindenwood, 4-2, in College Hockey America (CHA) play this afternoon.
No. 8 Robert Morris (21-5-1, 10-3-1 CHA) dropped its second-straight Saturday contest after winning its first 10 games played on the weekend's first day.
Lindenwood (3-21-2, 3-10-1 CHA) fed off the performance of goaltender Nicole Hensley, who stopped 55 of the 57 shots she faced. Hensley previously broke the NCAA record for saves in a single game against the Colonials last season, when she recorded 90 in the Lions' 2-1 triple-overtime defeat in the CHA Quarterfinals.
Junior goaltender
Courtney Vinet (Camrose, Alberta / Edge School) started her first game since Nov. 16, 2013 when she allowed one goal in RMU's 3-1 victory over Lindenwood at 84 Lumber Arena. Vinet allowed an even-strength goal and a power play tally in the first 20 minutes, then was subbed out to start the second frame in favor of freshman netminder
Jessica Dodds (London, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes).
After the Lions made it 3-0, Imbrogno pulled the Colonials within two as she lit the lamp on a power play off a pass from senior defenseman
Anneline Lauziere (St. Thomas, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes). RMU had an opportunity to cut the deficit to one late in the period, but Hensley held the Colonial power play unit in check.
Lindenwood made it 4-1 with a goal from Kendra Broad on a man advantage, but Imbrogno answered with a score of her own with an extra skater on the ice. Junior forward
Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder) and senior captain
Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University) were credited with the assists on the senior assistant captain's tally.
Vint's assist extended her point streak to 12 games and surpassed her point total from last season (33).
Dodds and Vinet combined to make 14 saves in the loss.
Robert Morris returns home next weekend to face Syracuse. The series is a part of CHA's "Skate for the Cure" weekend in which the Colonials will be raising money for breast cancer awareness. Face-off for Friday's contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from 84 Lumber Arena.
