Mitchell Leads Robert Morris at Zips Invite

Senior eclipses IC4A/ECAC qualifying mark for fourth time this season in weight throw

Senior Steve Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) continued his stellar 2013-14 indoor track & field campaign Friday, claiming bronze in the weight throw and eclipsing the qualifying mark for the IC4A/ECAC Championships for the fourth time this season in the event for Robert Morris University at the Zips Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

Mitchell posted a toss of 17.36 meters (56'11.50") to trail only Zachary Shull and Nicholas Banke of the host Zips. Mitchell also took part in the shot put, posting a throw of 15.66 meters (51'4.50") to finish fourth.

In the jumps, junior Shane Witmyer (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson) placed fourth in the high jump and sixth in the long jump. He posted a leap of 1.95 meters (6'4.75") in the high jump as well as a final mark of 6.77 meters (22'2.50") in the long jump.

In the track events, senior Abraham Roy (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) earned fourth in the 200-meter dash thanks to a time of 22.40, while senior Nicolas Gentile (Sarver, Pa. / Freeport) also placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:19.01.

RMU concludes the indoor portion of its 2013-14 season March 7-9, 2014, by taking part in the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston, Mass.
