Senior Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) of the Robert Morris University men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the 2014 USA Track & Field (USATF) Outdoor Championships after receiving an at-large invitation from the national team organization. The USATF Championship event will take place June 25-29 in Sacramento, Calif. Carper will compete in the javelin which will take place on the final day of competition, Sunday, June 29.

Carper became the first student-athlete in RMU history to be named to the All-America First Team when he finished fourth in the javelin at the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, earlier this month.

On his first attempt of the event, Carper posted a toss of 71.19 meters (233'6"), which placed him fourth. It proved to be his best throw of the afternoon and ranks third all-time in school history. Thanks to Carper's performance, Robert Morris compiled five points, tied with 10 other schools, including Pittsburgh and Penn State.

Carper's performance at the 2014 NCAA Championships capped the most dominant career in school history in an event. He now owns each of the top 11 marks in program history in the javelin, is a four-time All-Northeast Conference selection and claimed the individual title in the event at the 2014 NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla.
