Moon Township, Pa. –
Junior Richard Njenga (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) of the Robert Morris University men's track & field team was the second student-athlete to compete in as many days at the NCAA East Preliminary Round for the Colonials Friday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

Njenga competed in the triple jump, and despite not registering a distance due to a foul, capped a solid 2014 season by joining senior Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) at the 2014 NCAA East Prelims.

Njenga garnered the invite by winning the 2014 Northeast Conference individual title in the triple jump earlier this month at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island. Njenga produced a leap of 15.38 meters (50'5.50") to win the 2014 NEC outdoor championship, a mark that is a personal record and also ranks third all-time at Robert Morris.

RMU concludes its outdoor season with the 2014 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with Carper participating for the second straight year in the javelin. Carper is the reigning NEC and NCAA East Preliminary Round champion in the javelin and will look to earn All-America honors. The meet begins Friday, June 11, and runs until Monday, June 14.
