"It was a gritty effort by our team. What I really like is that we had six players reach double-digits and had 26 points off of our bench," said 11
th year RMU head coach
Sal Buscaglia. "In addition, when they made a little run at us in the second half, we responded. There is still a lot of basketball to go, three games left – two of those on the road. We have to continue to stay focused one practice and game at a time."
Robert Morris took a 30-21 after a choppy opening 20 minutes that featured 19 fouls and 20 combined turnovers. After Bryant scored the opening bucket, RMU went on a 23-10 surge, taking its biggest lead of the half, 23-12, when Spanou finished a nifty up-and-under move. A 7-0 run by the host squad cut the margin to four points. A three-pointer by Ravelli with 3:30 left in the half sparked the Colonials on a 7-2 sprint to the first half horn.
The Colonials built the second-half lead to as many as 13 points before having to withstand a 12-3 Bryant run. Breanna Rucker scored six of her game-high 16 points during the surge that left the Colonials holding on to a 50-46 lead with 8:13 to play.
For the second time in the game, Ravelli buried a big three-pointer that started a 9-0 run that she finished off with a lay-in on a nifty feed from Stamolamprou. That surge, that featured 4-4 shooting over a 1:35 span left RMU holding holding a 59-46 lead. Bryant never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
The Colonials continue a three-game road trip at St. Francis Brooklyn Monday, Feb. 24. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
