CHA Weekly Release (2/24)
Pittsburgh, Pa. – Following a three-point weekend against Penn State,
Robert Morris University women's hockey freshman forward
Maeve Garvey (Oakville, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) was named College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week.
Garvey tallied an assist on the Colonials' closing goal in their 5-2 victory this past Friday. The next day, the rookie forward broke a 13-game goalless drought by batting in a rebound in the third period of RMU's 4-0 win over the Nittany Lions. She later added an assist on an empty-netter to complete the three-point weekend.
Garvey holds the best shooting percentage on the team (.200), ranks fourth in goals (8), and sixth in points (15). The freshman has two multi-goal performances to her name this season, against Vermont (Oct. 25, 2013) and RIT (Dec. 7, 2013). She also becomes the fourth different Colonial to win Rookie of the Week this season, joining
Jessica Dodds (London, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes),
Brittany Howard (St. Thomas, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas), and
Mackenzie Johnston (Barrie, Ontario / Etobicoke Dolphins).
Robert Morris is off next weekend as it earned a bye in the CHA Tournament following this past Friday's victory. The Colonials will return to the ice on March 7 to take on the highest-seeded quarterfinal winner in the CHA Semifinals at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
