Staten Island, N.Y. / Spiro Sports Center – The Robert Morris University women's basketball team had won 17 consecutive games dating back to the 2005 against Wagner before an ice-cold second half led to a 67-51 setback against the Seahawks at the Spiro Sports Center in snowy Staten Island Monday night. The loss snaps a seven-game win streak as the Colonials slip to 12-9 overall and 8-2 in the Northeast Conference. Wagner improves to 5-16 and 4-6 in league games.

"Certainly it was a very disappointing game for us. As a unit, we just didn't do the things we are capable of doing," said 11th year RMU head coach Sal Buscaglia. "We continue to be very concerned about the second game of each weekend, especially on the road. That's something we need to improve on. We still control our own destiny and we just have to take one game at a time and get better each and every day as we try to teach this young team the importance of mental toughness day in and day out, game in and game out."

The Colonials went just 9-of-31 (.290) in the second half while the Seahawks converted on 14-of-25 (.560) in the second half. Robert Morris was led, for the second straight game, by freshman forward Cassie Oursler (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) who had 17 points and 11 rebounds in her second double-double of the year. Freshman Anna Niki Stamolamprou (Thessaloniki, Greece / Aristotelio College of Thessaloniki) tacked on 14 points and seven rebounds.

Senior forward Artemis Spanou (Rhodes, Greece / Nea Smryni) had 17 rebounds, but was held to five points as Wagner double and triple-teamed the reigning NEC Player of the Year.

Jasmine Nwajei had 22 points to lead all scorers. Jordyn Peck tacked on 21, 11 of those coming at the charity stripe. Ugo Nwaigwe finished with 24 rebounds.

Wagner opened the second half of play with a 14-4 run, taking the lead on a Lyndsay Rowe three-pointer with 15:48 to play. A three-pointer by Stamolamprou two minutes later tied the game, 37-37, just over 13 minutes remaining. Back-to-back three-pointers by Peck and Nwajei pushed the Seahawks lead back to six points and the Colonials would not recover. The Seahawks finished the game on a 15-1 run, beating the Colonials for the first time in their last 18 meetings.

After nearly three minutes of scoreless basketball to start, Wagner found its touch first pushing out a 9-4 lead as Jasmine Nwajei scored four early points. Oursler then came off the bench to score nine points, including five straight, while fueling an 18-4 run that gave the Colonials a 22-13 lead with 7:40 to play. The Seahawks cut the lead to three points, but Stamolamprou hit a floater and a long jumper to push the RMU lead to 28-21 at the break.

The Colonials return to the hardwood Saturday, Feb. 3, when St. Francis Brooklyn visits the Charles L. Sewall Center for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
