CHA Monthly Award Release (January)
Pittsburgh, Pa. –
Robert Morris University women's hockey junior forward
Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder) and freshman goaltender
Jessica Dodds (London, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes) were respectively named College Hockey America (CHA) Player and Goaltender of the Month for January.
This is the third time this season that multiple Colonials have collected monthly conference awards.
Vint brings home her second CHA Player of the Month honor this season and the fourth of her career. The junior forward registered 15 points (11 goals, 4 assists) in seven games, compiling a point in every contest and multiple points in four of the games. Her goal in the 3-0 win over St. Lawrence on Jan. 5 moved her into third place in the program record books for career points, and then she eclipsed the 100-point barrier with two goals and two assists in a 5-1 victory at Quinnipiac on Jan. 18.
On Jan. 25, Vint tallied the second hat trick of her career in a 5-3 loss at Mercyhurst. The trick was extra special, however, as she became the program record holder for career goals. The junior forward added to that total in RMU's next contest, turning the trick again with three goals in a 6-1 win at Lindenwood, giving her 58 for her career.
Nationally, Vint is tied for third in goals (20) and tied for 13
th in points (34). Among the conference, the junior forward leads the CHA in goals, third in assists, and tied for 11
th in assists (14). Vint also is one of four players nationally to record two hat tricks this season.
Dodds hasn't gone a month without winning some kind of CHA monthly award. This is the rookie's third-straight Goaltender of the Month honor after she went 5-1-1 in January with a goals-against-average (1.56) and save percentage (.947). She collected the fourth shutout of her career in a 3-0 blanking of St. Lawrence on Jan. 5, then set a career-high in saves with 36 in a 1-1 tie at Quinnipiac on Jan. 17. Dodds suffered the first loss of her career on Jan. 25 at Mercyhurst, but rebounded by allowing just one goal in a 6-1 victory at Lindenwood on Jan. 31.
The rookie netminder broke the wins record this past weekend against Lindenwood with her 18
th and holds the top spot in single-season shutouts (4). Her current save percentage (minimum 100 saves) and goals-against-average (minimum 200 minutes) would top the single-season record books if the season ended today.
Nationally, Dodds ranks third in winning percentage (.864), tied for seventh in shutouts, and eighth in goals-against-average (1.56) and save percentage (.935). She leads the CHA in all of those categories besides shutouts, where she's tied for second.
Robert Morris is back at home for the first time in over a month this weekend as the Colonials host Syracuse. This series is a part of CHA's "Skate for the Cure" weekend, in which RMU will be raising money for breast cancer awareness. Friday's contest is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop from 84 Lumber Arena.
