Landover, Md. – The Robert Morris University men's indoor track & field team sat in seventh place at the conclusion of the second and final day of the Northeast Conference Championships at Prince George's S&L Complex.

RMU, which claimed two titles Sunday, finished with 56 points.

Redshirt senior Steve Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) won his first NEC title Sunday as he came in first in the shot put with a heave of 16.71 meters. The throw, which was the fourth-longest in school history, means that Mitchell has now exceeded the IC4A qualifying standard in the event in each of the four times he has contested it this season.

Robert Morris' 4x400 meter relay team came up big to close the event as they successfully navigated the track in the fastest time to claim gold. RMU's winning time of 3:21.57 allowed the Colonials to win that event for the first time since 2001.

Junior Richard Njenga (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) earned the bronze in the triple jump by registering a distance of 14.36 meters.

A pair of mid-distance runners earned fifth-place finishes for RMU.

Senior Fred Thompson (Turtle Creek, Pa. / Woodland Hills) was fifth in the 500 meters with a new personal best time of 1:05.79 while classmate Nicolas Gentile (Sarver, Pa. / Freeport) stopped the clock in 1:55.96 to place fifth in the 800 meters.

Two Colonials scored points in the 60-meter hurdles as senior Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) and freshman Greg Miaczynski (Erie, Pa. / Collegiate Academy) finished in seventh (8.70 seconds) and eighth (8.73 seconds), respectively, in the event.

Junior Malcolm Ayers (Clarksburg, Md. / Clarksburg) was eighth in the 200-meter dash (23.01 seconds) Sunday while RMU also earned eighth-place points in the distance medley relay by stopping the clock at 10:41.01.

LIU Brooklyn won the team title with 125 points.

RMU will take next weekend off before resuming competition at the Zips Invitational in Akron, Ohio Saturday, Feb. 21.
