Staten Island, N.Y. –
The Robert Morris University men's basketball team concluded the 2013-14 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 59-48 loss to Wagner at the Spiro Sports Center.

In having their seven-game winning streak snapped, the Colonials dipped to 19-12 overall on the year, including 14-2 in the Northeast Conference. The Seahawks improve to 18-11 overall and 12-4 in league action.

RMU jumped out to leads of 7-1, 12-3 and 19-13 thanks to senior guard Karvel Anderson (Elkhart, Ind. / Glen Oaks Community College), who scored 11 points before the break.

However, after hitting seven of their first 12 shots from the field, the Colonials hit just two of their final 18 attempts from the floor and finished the first half at 30 percent (9-for-30). Over the final 7:11 of action in the first half, the Colonials were held scoreless.

In the meantime, Wagner used a 17-0 run to end the first half to grab a 30-22 edge at the break. Marcus Burton was the main offensive force for the Seahawks, draining four consecutive three-pointers.

Robert Morris tried to put together a run in the second half but struggled offensively, hitting just eight of its 32 attempts from the floor after the break. Overall, the Colonials shot 27.4 percent (17-for-62).

Anderson scored a game-high 21 points for the Colonials and also added two rebounds and two steals, but he was the only player in double figures for RMU.

Wagner was paced by Kenneth Ortiz, who finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Burton finished with 15 points.

Robert Morris opens the 2014 NEC Tournament with a quarterfinal game at the Charles L. Sewall Center Wednesday, March 5. The Colonials will host Fairleigh Dickinson in a 7:00 p.m. tip.
