2014 NIT Bracket
Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University men's basketball team will make its second straight appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Tuesday, March 18, when it travels to New York, N.Y., for a 7:00 p.m. tip against St. John's at Carnesecca Arena in a game that will be televised live on ESPNU.
The Colonials, who are marking their sixth postseason appearance in the last seven years, own an overall record of 21-13 (.618) entering the 2014 NIT and will face St. John's for the first time in program history Tuesday.
Led by fourth-year head coach
Andrew Toole, RMU is 1-2 all-time in the NIT, with its lone win a 59-57 victory over Kentucky (3/19/13) last season at the Charles L. Sewall Center. Robert Morris fell in the second round of the 2013 NIT with a 77-68 setback at Providence (3/25/13).
The Colonials are led by senior guard
Karvel Anderson (Elkhart, Ind. / Glen Oaks Community College) and junior forward
Lucky Jones (Newark, N.J. / St. Anthony), who have combined for 1,108 points in 2013-14, the most points by a duo in RMU single-season history.
Anderson leads Robert Morris in scoring with a 19.1 points per game average and has established single-season school records this year for points (649), three-pointers (106) and 20-point scoring games (17). The 2014 NEC Player of the Year and a 2014 All-NEC First Team selection, Anderson has scored 1,062 points in two seasons with the Colonials.
Jones, a 2014 All-NEC Second Team selection, supplies RMU with averages of 13.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest. The 13th player in school history to eclipse both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, Jones ranks 16th all-time in program history in career points (1,150) and sixth in career rebounds (644).
