Miaczynski Highlights Bobcat Open Classic for RMU

Freshman wins both the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles for Colonials

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's track & field team competed for the second time on the 2014 outdoor campaign Saturday, earning second out of five institutions at the 2014 Bobcat Open Classic in Buckhannon, W. Va.

The Colonials tallied 117 points, trailing only host West Virginia Wesleyan, which finished with 270.50 points. Following the Colonials were Bethany (69.50), Glenville State (49) and KT Athletics (38).

Highlighting the meet for the Colonials was freshman Greg Miaczynski (Erie, Pa. / Collegiate Academy), who won both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. He won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.61 seconds, outlasting junior teammate Grant Kuiawa (Jefferson Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson), who finished second at 16.09. In the 400-meter hurdles, Miaczynski posted a time of 56.75 meters to claim gold in the event.

Also finishing first in the sprints for RMU at the Bobcat Open Classic was senior Abraham Roy (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area), who crossed the finish line with a time of 49.51 seconds to win the 400-meter dash.

In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Ryan Brown (Spring Mills, Pa. / Penns Valley) won the 5,000-meter run thanks to a time of 15:51.62. Brown dominated the event, winning by almost 25 seconds, as finishing second was Wes Stowers of West Virginia Wesleyan at 16:15.95.

In the field events, freshman Justin Baker (New Enterprise, Pa. / North Bedford) posted a leap of 1.78 meters (5'10") in the high jump to earn silver, while junior Richard Njenga (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) finished third in the long jump at 6.58 meters (21'7.25").

Sophomore Nick Delmonaco (Oakmont, Pa. / Riverview) earned second in a pair of events in the throws, posting a throw of 13.75 meters (45'1.50") in the shot put and finishing with a final tally of 43.73 meters (143'6") in the discus.

Robert Morris continues its 2014 outdoor campaign Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, by taking part in the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. The meet is hosted by William & Mary.
