Njenga Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

As a team RMU was also honored for compiling 3.24 GPA during 2013-14 academic year

Junior Richard Njenga (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) of the Robert Morris University men's track & field team was honored for his work in the classroom and on the field, as he earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 and have met one of two athletic standards. For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, including preliminary rounds.

The plaudit from the USTFCCCA caps a solid junior campaign for Njenga, a management major that has compiled a 3.39 cumulative GPA.

At the 2014 NEC outdoor championships, which was hosted by the Colonials at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island, Njenga claimed the individual title in the triple jump thanks to a leap of 15.38 meters (50'5.50"). The mark was a personal record and ranks third all-time at Robert Morris. Njenga also took part in the 2014 NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

As a team, Robert Morris was also honored by the USTFCCCA for compiling a team GPA of 3.24 during the 2013-14 academic year.
