Colonials Earn MAAC Academic Honor Roll Plaudits

Total of 49 student-athletes named to honor roll from field hockey, rowing squads

A total of 49 student-athletes from Robert Morris University were named to the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Academic Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference Tuesday.

To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher on a 4.00 scale, and freshmen are eligible for the honor roll. A total of 1,967 student-athletes were honored by the MAAC, covering 25 sports by the conference and including both full-time and associate members.

An associate member of the conference in field hockey and women's rowing in 2013-14, the Colonials placed the most student-athletes on the 2014 MAAC Academic Honor Roll out of the conference's 13 associate members.

A total of 19 student-athletes from the RMU field hockey team were honored, including junior Michelle Lewthwaite (Macarthur, Australia / Westfield Sports), who has compiled a 3.90 cumulative GPA while owning a double major of marketing and management.

Freshman Briana Stine (Columbia, Md. / Atholton) posted a 3.94 cumulative GPA in her first academic year as a biology major, while sophomore Nicole Mackin (Louisville, Ky. / Sacred Heart Academy), a biology major, owns a 3.91 GPA.

The RMU women's rowing squad placed 30 student-athletes on the 2014 MAAC Academic Honor Roll, including nursing majors Paige Oster (Mantua, Ohio / Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and Emily Engle-Young (Holbrook, Pa. / West Greene), who each own 4.00 cumulative GPA's. Oster is a sophomore, while Engle-Young is a freshman.

Oster and Engle-Young are two of 11 student-athletes from the RMU women's rowing team that own cumulative GPA's of 3.80 or higher. Junior Laura Mooradian (St. Catherines, Ontario / Denis Morris) owns a 3.95 GPA with a double major of accounting and sport management, while senior Gretchen Gailey (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area) posted a 3.92 GPA as a mathematics major.

Senior Megan Coleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Northgate) graduated with a degree in actuarial science with a 3.89 cumulative GPA, while freshmen Taylor Andree (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) and Maddi Lewis (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) each concluded their first academic year at Robert Morris with matching 3.97 GPA's. Andree studies biology, while Lewis' major is nursing.
