Olean, N.Y. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team got off to a tremendous start in 2014-15 with a historic finish at the Leo Keenan Invitational at Bartlett Country Club in Olean, N.Y. The Colonials took the team title at the event for the second straight season, the third time in four years and the fourth time overall with a team score of 565 (+5).

The 36-hole score is the team's best by six strokes, breaking the Keenan tournament record that it set in 2011 with a 571. RMU carded a 281 in the first round, a team record for 18 holes, and followed with a 284 Monday, the second-best round in team history.

Senior Ryan Prokay won the medalist crown at 65-72=137 (-3) and he did so in dramatic fashion by making an eagle two on the 18th hole, his final hole of the day Monday. Prokay's approach shot on the 328-yard hole was from about 50 yards out an helped him edge out LIU Brooklyn's Stewart Gray by one shot.

It was the second career title for Prokay and his second over the last three collegiate tournaments he has entered. His opening round 65 tied for the lowest in RMU history while the 36-hole totals of 137 and three-under are both records as well. The senior made his hay on the par-four holes, playing them to five-under and a 3.79 stroke average.

Junior Garrett Browning had an impressive round two as well, tying Prokay's program record 65 (-5). One day after carding a 74, Browning found nine strokes en route to firing a second round 65, moving from 33rd to a tie for third in the final standings. The junior also had an eagle.

Senior Santiago Mejia finished 11th after a second round 75 gave him a two-day score of 143. He opened play with a 68 Sunday and was second among all players with eight birdies. Matt Gurska, a senior, and junior Dan Maier made improvements to their second round score, counting their numbers toward the record setting team total. Gurska found one shot to give him a 74-73=147 and place him in tie for 31st. Maier posted a second round 74 after a 76, finishing 46th with a 150 total.

Freshman Grant Schumaker finished in a tie for 67th at 80-79=159 while playing as an individual.

Robert Morris returns to the links Monday, Sept. 29, for the first of two rounds at the Cleveland State Invitational.
