Aurora, Ohio – The
Robert Morris University golf team is fifth after two of a schedule three rounds at the Cleveland State Invitational. RMU is just nine strokes off the pace set by first-place Appalachian State with 18 holes left to play.
The Colonials found themselves in second place after Monday's morning round thanks to a team score of 290. RMU shot 298 in the second round and now sits tied for fifth with a 588. Appalachian State leads with a 579 followed by Youngstown State (580) and Wright State (581). Detroit is fourth (584) followed by Oakland and RMU (588), Evansville (589), Cleveland State (591), Butler (593), Loyola (Ill.) (601), IPFW (605) and Saint Francis U (606).
Garrett Browning is tied for 10th at one-over par (145). He opened play with a one-under par-71 before carding a 74 in round two.
Santiago Mejia shot 73 (+1) in both rounds of the invitational. His 146 leaves him in a tie for 13th place.
Freshman
Grant Schumaker is tied for 17th in his first collegiate event. The rookie fired a 73 (+1) the first round before posting a 74 (+2) in round that gives him a 147 (+3) total.
Ryan Prokay is tied for 31st coming in at 73-77=150 (+6).
Freshman
Brett Pompeani and
Michael McMorrow made their Colonial debuts Monday as well. Pompeani shot a first round 80 before improving one shot in round two with a 79. McMorrow, playing as an individual, was one-over par after the first round and carded a second round 76. He is tied for 27th with a 149.
