Artemis Spanou has quickly made an impact on the professional level with Istanbul Universitesi BGD of the Turkish Basketball First League (TKBL). Spanou has helped the squad to a 7-2 start and a tie for second place in the TKBL.
The two-time Northeast Conference Player of the Year has played in all nine of the team's games, starting half of those contests. Spanou is averaging 6.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in over 20 minutes of action during league games.
Spanou started her professional career by helping Istanbul to a 4-2 record in pool play for the upcoming 2015 Eurocup Tournament. She recorded two double-doubles in that event, including a 14-point, 11-rebound performance in the team's first game against Tsmoki-Minsk. She reached double-digit scoring in five of the six games, finishing the event by pulling down 15 boards and scoring 13 points in a 72-49 victory over BC Utena.
Spanou was a two-time NEC Player of the Year, a 2013 NetScouts Basketball All-America pick, a College Sports Madness All-Mid Major Team selection, four-time All-NEC player and the 2011 NEC Rookie of the Year. She set seven RMU career records – including points and rebounds, three single-season marks and three game records. Spanou led the nation in rebounding as a junior and recorded 85 career double-doubles, third most in NCAA history. She graduated as one of only seven players in NCAA Division I history to record 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 blocks.
