Moon Township, Pa. – Three players on the
Robert Morris University women's basketball team earned postseason recognition from the Northeast Conference Friday morning. The ballots were filled out by the league's coaches who made sophomore guard Anna Niki Stamolamprou an All-NEC First Team selection while freshmen forwards
Mikalah Mulrain and
Megan Smith earned spots on the league's All-Rookie team.
This season is the third consecutive in which Robert Morris has had two players named to the NEC All-Rookie team. No other NEC school has ever had two players named all-rookie in back-to-back seasons. The Colonials have now had an All-NEC first team selection in four consecutive seasons and 10 of the last 11.
Stamolamprou is eighth in the conference averaging 15.4 points per game and is second in the conference with 75 three-pointers this season. She leads the team in scoring, assists and steals and is second on the squad averaging 5.6 rebounds per game. Her 75 treys this season are tied for fourth all-time in Robert Morris single season annals.
The Greek-native, who was an All-Rookie Team selection last year, is second in the conference and is 24th nationally averaging 2.6 three-pointers per game. Her outstanding season featured a 28-point performance against Bryant where she hit seven three-pointers, the third most in team history. Converting at 43.6 percent from long range, she is 12th nationally in three-point percentage.
In addition to her long range prowess, Stamolamprou is 14th in league pulling down 5.6 rebounds. She ranks ninth in the league shooting 44.5 percent from the field and sits 13th in the league dishing out 2.6 assists per contest.
Smith averaged 9.9 points and tacked on 4.6 rebounds per game. Starting 26 of 27 games, she developed an all-around game that become pivotal to the squad's success. Smith was fourth on the squad in both assists (49) and blocks (16). A three-time NEC Rookie of the Week, she shot 42.3 percent from both the field and three-point range.
Mulrain emerged as a stout defensive presence in the post. The Brampton, Ontario, native is second in the NEC with 50 blocks. That number is fourth in the team's single-season record books. Playing all 29 games, including six starts, she averaged 4.8 points and 4.0 rebounds for the season. The rookie shot 53.8 percent (49-91) from the field and went to the charity stripe more than any player on the team.
The Colonials finished the regular season with a 15-14 record and were third in the league standings at 13-5. Robert Morris will host #6 seed Fairleigh Dickinson in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Northeast Conference Women's Basketball Tournament presented by NRG Home Solar this Sunday, March 8. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
