Gurska Earns NEC Golfer of the Week Nod

Moon Township, Pa. - Senior Matt Gurska was named the Northeast Conference Golfer of the Week after finishing off the finest tournament of his career and, based on score to par, the finest 36-hole tournament a member of the Robert Morris University men's golf team has ever played. Gurska was the medalist for the first time in his collegiate career and helped the Colonials to their second tournament victory of the season at the Seahawk Invitational.

Tallying six birdies and a three-under par 69 in the opening round, Gurska tacked on three more birdies to his tournament leading total Monday. His final round of 70 gave him a 139, five-strokes under par and seven strokes ahead of his nearest competitor. The Hermitage, Pa.-native topped the field in birdies (9), par three scoring (2.88), par four scoring (4.05) and par five scoring (4.38) and was second with 24 pars.

His five-under is a new program record for a 36-hole tournament while the 139 is the second lowest stroke total. Gurska's score at the Seahawk Invitational marks a seven-stroke improvement over his previous best two-round total.
