Lynch and Wilson Candidates for Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - A pair of Robert Morris University seniors are among twenty of the top NCAA men's ice hockey student-athletes selected as candidates today for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate hockey. Senior forward Zac Lynch and senior defenseman Tyson Wilson were both selected for their exemplary efforts both on and off the ice.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Lynch and Wilson are two of the five nominees that come from Atlantic Hockey Association schools and Robert Morris is one of only four schools with two nominees, the others being Michigan State, Penn State and Harvard.

On the ice, Lynch is among the top scorers in NCAA men's hockey, currently the active career points leader with 139 points in 139 career games, leading Atlantic Hockey in scoring with 38 points. Lynch is the nation's third-leading scorer with 18 goals and 20 assists. Wilson is one of the nation's best offensive defensemen, part of the Colonials NCAA-best power play along with Lynch, scoring 20 points so far this season. Wilson leads the conference in plus/minus, second in the country with a 27 mark.

With a 3.89 career GPA, Lynch is a dedicated student who excels in his field & will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering. The Pittsburgh native has been on the Dean's List every semester of his college career and has been recognized by the School of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science as a Dean's Scholar in 2014 and 2015. Lynch has earned Atlantic Hockey Association first-team all-academic honors in each of his first three seasons. Lynch was named the Robert Morris University Student Athlete of the Year in 2014-15. In 2013-14 Lynch was honored as a member of the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, the first RMU men's hockey player to earn this honor and earned a 4.0 GPA that year. As a freshman in 2012-13, Lynch was named Atlantic Hockey Student Athlete of the Year.

Wilson excels in the classroom with a wide range of courses under his belt. An Economics major with minors in both accounting and legal studies, Wilson holds a 3.86 GPA with a perfect record on the Dean's List. The Brockville, Ontario native has also been a Dean's Scholar each semester and has been on the President's List for three semesters with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Wilson was named to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an academic honors society for business students. During his freshman season, Wilson was the Atlantic Hockey Student Athlete of the Year and has been on the Atlantic Hockey all-academic team every season.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Men's Frozen Final Four in April.
