Clark, Yates Commit to Colonials

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University softball team received commitments from infielder Kaitlyn Clark and Abbey Yates, who signed National Letters of Intent, announced Colonials head softball coach Craig Coleman.

Clark is a senior corner infielder from Canal Fulton, Ohio. She plays for Archbishop Hoban High School and is a member of the Ohio Lasers Orange and Ohio Ice Gold during travel seasons. As a junior at Archbishop Hoban, Clark hit .390 and had a .450 on-base percentage while leading her team to an appearance in the Ohio state high school semifinals. Those numbers helped her collect All-Ohio Underclass Team honors for the third consecutive season and a spot on the All-North Coast League team. Clark also earned Archbishop Hoban's student athlete award.

"Kaitlyn is physically very strong and moves deceptively well. She is an aggressive and intense player who will help us both offensively and defensively," said Coleman.

A native of Bellevue, Ohio, Yates comes to RMU after playing high school softball for Bellevue and travel ball for the Ohio Outlaws and Turnin2. As a junior with Bellevue, Yates hit .358 and boasted a .470 on-base percentage. She was named to the All-Northern Ohio League First Team as a sophomore and a junior and was an all-district pick as a junior. Leading her team to a district championship in 2016 played a large part in earning her post season accolades.

"Abbey is an incredibly smooth defensive player with a lot of quickness and athleticism," said Coleman. "She also hits the ball for average and power. We expect her to step into a contributing role in our infield right away."

Robert Morris advanced to the Northeast Conference championship game last year and posted an overall record of 23-33 including a mark of 10-6 in league games.
