The Capsule
The
Robert Morris University women's basketball team passes the midway mark of its six-game road trip on Black Friday when it faces Stetson at the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament. The Colonials' swing away from Moon Township continues through the upcoming weekend and concludes on Dec. 1 at Delaware.
The Series vs. Stetson
Robert Morris won their only previous meeting with the Hatters, claiming an 85-78 decision on Jan. 2, 1988. The Colonials had four players in double-figure scoring that day, including JoAnn Beatty, who scored a team-high 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds.
Scouting the Hatters
After opening the season with four consecutive victories, Stetson fell at Arkansas, 79-62, on Monday, Nov. 21 for its first blemish of 2016-17. Coming off a 20-win campaign and a WBI appearance in March, the Hatters have four players averaging double-figures in points and another six seeing at least nine minutes per game. Senior guard Britani Saunders paces the team with 16.2 points per game and is a perfect 19-of-19 from the line. Junior forward Sarah Sagerer has averaged nearly a double-double in the early going with 10.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest.
Last Time Out
Robert Morris fell behind Vanderbilt in the first quarter and could never fully recover, falling to the Commodores, 75-59. Anna Niki Stamolamprou and
Megan Smith were each in double-figures for the Colonials, scoring 18 and 11, respectively.
Nneka Ezeigbo added a career-high nine points and seven rebounds in her second career start.
Record Book Movement
With 18 points at Vanderbilt, senior guard Anna Niki Stamolamprou moved past Kim Mong (1981-85) into sole possession of fifth place on the program's all-time scoring list. Stamolamprou now has 1,364 career points and is 45 shy of surpassing Sheri Horvath (1992-93, 94-97) for fourth place.
Third Quarter, Our Quarter
The third quarter has been a big reason for the Colonials' three victories this season as the team owns a 80-67 edge over its opponents in the frame. RMU has only been outscored once in the third stanza (at Vanderbilt) and is gaining an average of 4.5 third quarter points against its foes in the other contests.
Â
Nearly Perfect
Robert Morris converted all but one of its attempts from the line in its 62-51 win at Lafayette last Wednesday, making 13-of-14 free throws for a conversion rate of 92.9 percent. The last time the Colonials were perfect from the chalk was on Jan. 26, 2015 at Mount St. Mary's when they sank all 11 attempts in a 68-44 victory.
Smith Stars for RMU
Junior forward
Megan Smith has been a big source of offense for the Colonials in their first four games, averaging a 13.8 points per contest while adding an per-game average of 8.2 rebounds. Smith, who posted her second career double-double against Point Park (19p, 13r), has been incredibly efficient, converting field goals at a 57.4 percent rate and has made eight of her 15 attempts from beyond the arc.
Cleaning the Glass
Freshman center
Nneka Ezeigbo has been a spark for the Colonials early in the season, particularly on the glass. In her first career start, Ezeigbo pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds at Kent State and is averaging a team-best 8.6 caroms per contest.
